Retirement Countdown: Spring

Spring has sprung! And the window to file for retirement is about to open. You can file your application up to 90 days prior to your effective date of retirement – but not before April 2nd for a July 1st retirement – or as late as the date of your actual retirement.  

Retirement Countdown: Summer

Summer is here! And if you plan a July 1 retirement, remember these important dates. 

• July 15 – That’s the last day you can withdraw your retirement application.  
• July 31 – That’s the last day NYSTRS can receive an Election of Retirement Benefit form if you want to change the benefit payment election you made on your application.  
• The last business day in July – That’s the direct deposit date for your first benefit payment.
