NYSTRS strives to offer the most comprehensive and affordable medical, dental and vision benefits to ensure our employees live a healthy life.  We participate in the New York State Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP) to provide quality HMO and PPO options to our staff and retirees. Our low-cost share means that our employees get a great value for their contribution. Employees who do not wish to participate in the health insurance plan have access to a buy-out program that provides a cash stipend.  Additionally, by meeting certain eligibility requirements, our employees are able to continue health insurance coverage into retirement – paying the active employees’ rates!

Our dental and vision options provide highly competitive coverage. For dental coverage we work with Delta Dental and the CSEA Employee Benefit Fund. NYSTRS pays 100% of the cost of dental care for individuals, and 50% for family. For vision coverage we work with Davis Vision.

NYSTRS offers retirement options to create a secure future. The options include a traditional pension through the New York State and Local Retirement System (NYSLRS), voluntary defined contribution plans and deferred compensation plans. Options vary by position.   

NYSTRS believes in education. To that end, we provide our employees with an Educational Assistance Program that includes coverage of tuition, fees and books. Staff members may also participate in the CSEA Tuition Benefit (voucher) program administered by NYS and CSEA Partnership for Education and Training. Employees can also receive assistance for earning and maintaining relevant professional certifications, and attending external training conferences.
