Pension plans like the one administered by NYSTRS are a far more cost-efficient means of providing retirement income compared to individual defined contribution accounts, according to a study conducted by the National Institute on Retirement Security (NIRS).

Hundreds of delegates, alternates and visitors from school districts statewide attend a Retirement System meeting each year and are updated on NYSTRS benefits and changes that have occurred during the year. NYSTRS Not Impacted by Federal Pension Legislation
Pension provisions in a new federal spending bill do not impact your promised NYSTRS benefits. The bill largely pertains to multiemployer plans, which are funded by several employers in a specific industry, such as trucking or construction. (Read more)
Delegates Do Double Duty
For the second time in four years, delegates attending the Annual Meeting of NYSTRS Delegates in Saratoga Springs Nov. 9 and 10 had the unusual privilege of electing multiple teacher members to the System's Retirement Board. (Read more)
NYSTRS Posts 18.2% Return
The Retirement System's total portfolio returned 18.2% net of fees for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2014. It was the fourth double-digit return posted since the 2009 global financial crisis and exceeded the actuarially assumed rate of return of 8.0% by more than 1,000 basis points. (Read more)
