The required employer contribution rate (ECR) is determined annually through an actuarial valuation of NYSTRS' assets and liabilities.
The ECR applicable to 2011-12 member salaries is 11.11%. The funds associated with this ECR will be collected in the fall of 2012. Refer to Administrative Bulletin 2011-8 for more information.
Based on preliminary estimates, NYSTRS anticipates the ECR for the next year to be between 11.50% and 12.50% of member payroll. This rate will apply to fiscal year 2012-13 member salaries and will be collected in the fall of 2013. See Administrative Bulletin 2011-13 for additional information. An Administrative Bulletin will be provided in February 2012 with a more precise estimate of this ECR.
For your reference, please see our chart Average Employer Contribution Rates by Decade, which illustrates the percentage of salary which school districts contribute to NYSTRS on behalf of members.
