"Status of Possible State Retirement Incentive Legislation"
June 2001
Issue No. 6

For your information, we are providing a copy of the most recent Administrative Bulletin sent in June to all Chief School Administrators and College and University Presidents.

At this time, there is no legislative agreement on a state retirement incentive for this year. STRS is not in a position to determine if one will be passed.

If your district has negotiated an agreement with its employees to adopt a state retirement incentive if enacted, please be advised that the open period cannot begin until the Governor signs the bill into law. Because the Senate has adjourned until mid-July, a law could not be in place before mid-to-late summer.

Some of your members may have applied for retirement in anticipation of a state incentive. It is important to note that any member whose date of retirement is prior to the open period you elect will not be eligible for the incentive.

Please refer to our Web site www.nystrs.org for the latest information.
