Mr. Smirensky serves as the New York State Comptroller representative on the NYSTRS Board. He serves on the Ethics and Investment committees.

A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), he is the chief investment officer of the New York State Health Foundation. He previously served the Office of the Comptroller as director of alternative investments, director of New York 's College Savings Program and senior investment officer for the New York State Common Retirement Fund. A Columbia University graduate, he also worked with the New York State Assembly.
