Ms. Salenger is one of three trustees elected from the NYSTRS membership to serve on the 10-member Board. She was elected vice president of the NYSTRS Board by her fellow trustees in 2009. She chairs the Legislation Committee and serves on the Executive, Board Governance, Disability Review, Finance, Proxy, Retired Members and Rules & Regulations committees.

Ms. Salenger earned her B.A. and M.A. degrees from New York University, and her M.L.S. degree from CUNY's Queens College. She began her teaching career in New York City and has been a long-time faculty member in the Wappingers Central School District. An active member of New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), she serves on that organization's Legislation Committee and is former chair of the Pension and Retirement Resolutions Committee.
