Administrative Bulletin No. 2000-13

Subject:  "Annualized Contracts" for Part-time Employees

To:  College and University Presidents               Date:  December 2000

The STRS Retirement Board has recently approved rules and regulations pertaining to the calculation of an “annualized contract” for other than full-time SUNY College faculty and professional employees. Please note this is a change from our previous rules on this topic.

As of July 1, 2000, reported salary information to the Retirement System for part-time faculty and professional staff must include a contract salary, which is the greater of the following:

  • The “annualized contract” calculated as per instructions in the STRS employer manual

                                                    or

  • The campus minimum salary for the professional obligation (college or calendar year) to which the employee would be entitled

For example, if a 10-month part-time employee has an annualized contract computed to be $18,000, but the campus minimum salary for that professional obligation is $20,276, the contract to be reported should be $20,276.

In all cases, the annualized contract to be reported to the System for part-time staff should not be less than the campus minimum for the professional obligation under which they are employed.

Should you have questions pertaining to any of the above, please contact our Employer Reporting Section at 1-800-356-3128, extension 2855.
